The Global Trap Schema developed by and exclusive to GIS-pax is a smart, interactive tool that makes defining hydrocarbon traps simple and consistent. By standardizing how traps are described, it helps teams speak the same language, compare opportunities with ease, and accelerate smarter exploration decisions.
The technical team at GIS-pax have built a 3D trap description schema that describes every trap type in the modern exploration environment. It is unique, this schema has never existed before, as all trap schemas currently available are 2D not 3D schemas like the real world.
Our observation is that complex traps are described and risked differently in many companies and indeed often evaluated differently in different teams in the same company. This schema provides a common basis for communication and risking of these complex traps.

Trap Classification Schemes
Every defined trap is classified in multiple different ways but one key descriptor is how many dip (or faulted dip) flanks are present and there are only 6 different types in nature. Everyone is familiar with the 4 Way and 3 Way types but there are 4 others that define other families of trap types that have different risk and charge focus profiles.
